Sports

My dad loved just about all sports. He played many different sports throughout his lifetime, and was good at all of them. Fast pitch Softball--My dad played fast pitch softball when I was real young. He was a pitcher and could pitch faster than just about anyone around. Golf--This was his real love! He would play golf everyday if he could. I remember him taking us kids out on the course with him and wanted us to like it as much as he did, but my sister and I just didn't take to it. My brother played some, but not as much as dad would have liked, I'm sure. Bowling--My dad played on bowling leagues almost his entire life. He loved to bowl and was very good, as well. He had an average of around 175-200. Fishing-- he enjoyed fishing a lot too. We would go camping and us kids would stay in the tent or camper and sleep while he and my mom took off and went fishing very early in the morning. crazy!! Hunting--Dad also hunted. Not many things did dad & I disagree on, but this was one of them. Dad and mom were both hunters. They would go hunting for squirrel, rabbit, but mostly deer. I hated that! I am such an animal lover, that I just never agreed in hunting them, unless you were starving and needed them for food. Horseshoes-- This is more of a game, I guess, but he also pitched horseshoes and was very very good. He beat just about anyone who would play him. As far as other sports, dad loved them as well, but watched them as a fan. College Basketball and Football--Oh boy!! Was dad ever a fan! He was a HUGE I.U.fan! I don't know when dad started following IU ball, but I am sure way before I was even born! As I got older, I started watching and getting in to it, as well. I loved watching the games with dad! We would even go to some of their home games! Bob Knight was like a GOD to us!! Just ask us and we would tell you that he was the absolute best basketball coach there ever was!! During basketball season we bled red and white!! We went to some of their football games, as well! Pro basketball- He loved the Indiana Pacers, of course! When Reggie Miller played for them, was when dad enjoyed it the most! NFL-Dad loved the Indianapolis Colts, as do I and my brother, Mike! During football season, we bled blue & white! Watching, going to the games and just sitting around with dad talking about our teams....those were some of the best times of my life! I miss that so much!! I had moved away from Indiana, but Dad & Mike still went. They had season tickets every year. They even started tailgating with a group there. Dad loved doing that so much! Everyone got to know Dad so much around there, he even played Santa there at Christmas time. Horse Racing--Dad didn't start getting in to horse races until I got him and Mike in to it around maybe 7-8 years ago. I started going to the Kentucky Derby and got Mike going with me, and then we got dad interested in it. He really enjoyed going, spending time with us and watching those horses run. We never made much money, mostly lost some, but it was still a lot of fun! When I moved away, he and Mike continued to go. Indy Car racing-Mike and dad really got into this! I watched the Indy 500 every year and a couple other of the races, but I was more into Nascar. Dad & Mike really loved their Indy cars though. They had season tickets every year to this, as well!
